Readings:

John chapter 20 verses 30 - 31 (New Living Translation)

30 The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. 31 But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.

John chapter 10 verses 10 - 15 (New Living Translation)

10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep. 12 A hired hand will run when he sees a wolf coming. He will abandon the sheep because they don’t belong to him and he isn’t their shepherd. And so the wolf attacks them and scatters the flock. 13 The hired hand runs away because he’s working only for the money and doesn’t really care about the sheep.
14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, 15 just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep.

Prayer & Reflection

Loving God
Today we say thank you for making a way for us to be with You eternally. Thank you that instead of punishing us, You made a way for us to be at one with You, for all eternity.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your sacrifice on the cross, and thank you, Holy Spirit, for guiding, correcting and encouraging us as we try to live according to the Father’s will for us.
Thank you, O God, that your will for us is good and pleasing and perfect. We say thank you, and may Your will be done.
Amen.

Questions to Consider

1. What do you make of what God’s purpose was in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus?
2. Why this way – didn’t God just overlook or forgive sin, or do things a less painful way?
3. What is your own take on what was happening at the cross?
4. What is your response?
5. What crosses are you bearing – and are you bearing them with God’s help?
