Easter Services

As we continue to reflect on all we’ve been learning through our current series, we arrive at Holy Week, which traditionally begins on Palm Sunday and finishes on Easter Sunday. This is a special time, as the season of Lent concludes and we celebrate ‘the greatest day in history’! We have four very different services going on at EBC this coming week, and we really hope you can come to them all!

Palm Sunday: “A Day of Peace and Praise”. 10am only (live-streamed).
We have one service at 10am and we are joined by Rev. Jonathan Edwards who will be giving the talk. Jonathan is the Minister at Central Church, Swindon and he is the former General Secretary of the Baptist Union of Great Britain. Jonathan also offers moderation and pastoral oversight to churches when called upon, and he did this for EBC during our period of pastoral vacancy some years ago when our previous Senior Minister was called to another church and Simon subsequently became our Team Leader. Jonathan has continued his links with EBC ever since, preaching for us at a church weekend and mentoring Simon throughout his formation at Regent’s Park College. Please be with us to give him a rapturous EBC welcome!

There will be a light lunch after the service so please make sure to sign in at reception of via email (officestaff@ebc-bracknell.org) if you would like to stay for this.

Agape

Maundy Thursday: An Agape Meal
We gather at 7.30pm to reflect on Jesus’s example of servant leadership, and break bread together. The word ‘maundy’ is thought to derive from the Latin word ‘mandatum’, which means commandment. Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” (John 13:34 NKJV). It is this commandment, and Jesus’s example of love played out through humble service, that we reflect upon during our agape meal. ‘Agape’ itself is one of the Greek words for love, in this case the kind of perfect love God shows towards us, and which we should reflect back to Him and each other.

Please make sure to sign in at reception of via email (officestaff@ebc-bracknell.org) if you would like to come.

Good Friday

Good Friday: “The Way of the Cross”. 10am only, (No live-stream)
This will be a service with a difference as we listen at tables to readings from all four Gospels, the accounts of Jesus’s life, with time to reflect on different moments on His journey from Gethsemane to Calvary. We will be using a Bible-based version of the so-called ‘stations of the cross’ to help us spend time contemplating each moment, with passages of scripture and pictures, objects, songs and prayers to stir our minds and emotions.
